Mr Kalam released a strategy paper on “Mission on Primary Sector of Andhra Pradesh” at Garudapuram village in Kalyanadurg mandal of Anantapur district on Monday during  the Janmabhoomi-Mavuru programme. He asked the government to improve irrigation facilities between Anantapur and Srikakulam. Advising Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to concentrate on improving irrigation sources in the drought prone Anantapur district, he hoped all parts of Anantapur would have irrigated sources in the next five years. “I would visit again after five years to see a green area,” Mr Kalam said. Recalling his interaction with thousands of farmers over their experiences in agriculture, Mr Kalam observed that farmers depend on the quality of seed, water and other facilities rather than subsidies to get quality produce. Mr Naidu, who is the acting chairman of the Mission on Primary Sector, said Anantapur district is very important for the Telugu Desam. “We have a vision to make the agriculture sector free from power cuts by overcoming many problems in the sector. We will solve them one by one.” He added the mission was launched in Anantapur to send a signal to drought affected farmers to get fruitful results from the drought roofing system.
