"She was like a winter landscape in the mountains, an expanse of pure white serenity breathing peace and contentment."

Her relationship with me underwent a series of changes, but our love and affection for each other remained everlasting. Right from the time we lived in the village to our life in city, I always found her to be pretty; not the physical beauty but the spiritual charm. Her love for the dogs in the village was converted to her affection for the sparrows in the city. When I returned home from abroad she did not express her happiness in words or emotions but collected the neighbourhood women and sang the homecoming of the warriors.

Even her death was mourned by the horde of sparrows that had collected in the courtyard. They did not as much as touch the bread crumbs thrown to them but flew away quietly after her body was taken for cremation.

It is absolutely true to say that the grandmother was not beautiful but definitely pretty
