heya!

hope that this is my entry for the contest!

INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR NATURAL DISASTER REDUCTION..

almost two million lives lost.. a million rendered homeless.. rotting dead bodies in the sun, near riverbeds.. underneath buildings.. su8nch is the sight at every natural catastrophe which we haumans have been experiencing.. datas are provided from 1934 to the 2000's ..
we have been bearing patiently the badge of natural disaster's victims since times immemorial.. with all lovely, lively smiles of happy families.. being faded away with sternest cries..

there has been  an obvious increase in the intensity of these disasters.. plainly due to the fact of increasing infrastructure .. and our own mindset of exploiting and leaving no stone unrurned to snatch away.. as much resources we can c grab out from the soil which is our creator..
but have we done anything to make sure these painful calamities don't bother us anymore?

well.. the answer is actually impossible to achieve in a yes.. plainly DUE TO THE FACT THAT IF WE TRY TO TAKE NATURE AND IT'S WORK IN OUR HANDS.. IT'S SURE TO CRUMBLE US UP TO A MASS OF NOTHING.. ..
BUT.. can't we atleast take the initiative to stop these million lives to be taken away by nature? atleast by awareness? ...
well..

.this is done by the INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR NATURAL DISASTER REDUCTION!
observed every year on the second Wednesday of october to bring the whole world alive and recognizable to the need of spreading the highest level of awareness possible to decrease the loss encurred in the social , harmonical , political and economical aspects..

the UNIDSR .. I.E THE united nations office for disaster risk reduction has maintained the aura of this day and lays guidelines and distributes pamphlets in order to make sure that a major part of this disaster - borne world recognizes the need to be cautious and observant of upcoming disasters!

this day was passed on to be in 1989 by the united nations general assembly to make sure the world takes up notice of risk - awareness.. (Resolution 64/200, 21 December 2009). was the fixed schedule..
hope this day.. creates more enlightenment in the future for securing lives!

THIS DAY INVOLVES ..enlightening people about the adversities of the various natural disasters taking place in the society..the media tries to spread various types of news and tips which are a must to follow while a natural crisis..to raise the profile of natural risk reduction..

one thing to note here is that it's a global observance for risk reduction campaigns.. it isn't a holiday.. it is observed on every second Wednesday of October.. this year 2027.. it falls on 11 th October..
every year it sets a theme in order to give it's thoughts a clearer shape..
the theme of the year 2017 is clearly home safe home..

the un has been trying it's best since it's formation for not only providing the world with a better future not only by securing international peace and stop wars but has also has taken really good preventive measures for safeguarding the needs of people during natural disasters.... hope this special thought asnd view of united nations comes alive by the gradual awareness of the people of the world..^ ^

HOPE THIS HELPS YOU..

Hi friend,

Your answer:

International day for natural disaster reduction

The United Nations started celebrating the international day for natural disaster reduction from the year 1989 to raise the profile of disaster risk reduction and make aware the general public about it. Its aim is to teach people about Learning to Live with Risk.

The United Nations' General assembly members observed that the number of lives lost in disasters was rising steadily. United Nations was abreast of the high number of disaster related deaths. Many people around the world have lost their lives or access to essential facilities due to natural disasters. The economic cost suffered by countries more prone to them was also rising faster. Hence, they decided to start a platform to spread awareness about Natural Disaster, their consequences and the methods to curb and deal with them.

For this purpose, the United Nations established a separate department for it called United nations office for disaster risk reduction (UNISDR) which is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland and has branches in most of the major cities of the world.

So, on December 22, 1989, the UN General Assembly designated the second Wednesday of October as the International Day for Natural Disaster Reduction. But they later changed it to 13th of every October from 2009.

This day is observed annually. People are encouraged to work together to minimize the damage caused by the natural disasters through prevention. They are encouraged to come forward and to promote a message that is global in nature about the natural disaster risk-awareness and its reduction. It calls for determined and sustained common action by the whole world for this purpose. The vision of the United Nations is to meet the needs of the present situation and fulfill it without compromising the safety of the future generations.

This day though quite well known has received very little contemplation in development policies from developing countries due to alleviating poverty or lack of required machinery.

I think that this day should also be celebrated every year in our country. As the occurrence of natural disasters in India is higher than expected and the resilience to it is slow.Due to this, people of India will become aware of disaster management methods.

United Nations celebrates this day every year. Some of its mottos and themes over the last few years:-

2016 was: “Live to Tell: Raising Awareness, Reducing Mortality”

2015 was: “Knowledge for Life”

2014 was: “Resilience is for Life”

2013 was: “Living with Disability and Disasters”

2012 was: “Women and Girls: the Invisible Force of Resilience”

2011 was: “Children and Young People are partners for Disaster Risk Reduction: Step Up for Disaster Risk Reduction!”

2010 was: “My City is Getting Ready!”

2009/2008 was: “Hospitals Safe from Disaster”

2007/2006 was: “Disaster Risk Reduction Begins at School”

2005 was: “Invest to Prevent Disaster”

2004: “Today’s disasters for tomorrow’s hazards”

2003 was: “Turning the tide… ”

2002 was: “Sustainable mountain development”

2001 was: “Countering Disasters, Targeting Vulnerability”

2000 was: “Disaster Prevention, Education and Youth”

This year (2017)'s motto or theme is :- Home Safe Home.

At last, I want to conclude by saying that we all know that an appropriate disaster management is one of the most crucial tasks of the mankind. The UN is trying its best in it. But it can not do anything alone unless all the people of the world join hands together.

Hope it helps!
