petrol also does not react with sodium. but it is not selected for preserving sodium metal. why

reactive metal like Sodium Potassium and Calcium stored in inactive solvents like kerosene because if it comes into contact with water hydrogen is liberated. And thus an explosion can can take place. petrol is not used for this purpose because it is highly volatile and thus hydrogen will react with air forming a detonating mixture
