I live in New Delhi. I study in Class V. We live in apartments in a decent locality. Recently during our holidays, we visited a village in North central India. We went there for a marriage. So we stayed for many days.
I was surprised of the conditions existing there. People don't know about cleanliness. I saw some people taking bath in the pond/canal near a temple. Then they carry water from the pond/canal to their homes.
Some children were defecating and urinating in public, beside the roads. The road stinked so much that we couldn't walk. There were small canals on both sides of the road. They were full of dirt and stinking water coming out of kitchens and bathrooms in the houses.
One day a servant in the house did not turn up for duty. Her daughter was running fever. She suffered like this frequently. My father later told me that the lack of toilets in their school and improper maintenance of toilets at home are causes for her illness. An insect bite could cause fever.
These events all shocked me. I became aware of the importance of Swachhta. I inquired all about swachhta from my parents. Now I am perfect in adopting swachchta at home and other places.
