The palace of Versailles was very large. There were many big rooms and walls were sculpted from golds. In that, the royal family lived. All the legal matters takes place in this palace of Versailles. As it was very huge palace, it's maintenance cost was very high and in the 1718, when population of France increased there was shortage of food. Thus, increasing the taxes which was only paid by the third estate along with for the maintenance of the palace of Versailles these steps were taken.
