Evaporation is a surface phenomenon because during evaporation process the molecules of the given liquid which are in motion collide with other molecules and they transfer kinetic energy.When the molecules present on the surface of the liquid gain enough kinetic energy to over come gravitational force on them they escape from the surface of the liquid.Hence we can say that evaporation is a surface phenomenon.
