1. Evolution should not be equated with progress.
In fact, there is no real 'progress' in the idea of evolution. Evolution is simply the generation of diversity and the shaping of the diversity by environmental factors. The only progressive trend in evolution seems to be that more and more complex body designs have emerged over time. However, again it is not as if older designs are inefficient! So many of the older and simpler designs still survive. In other words, human beings are not the pinnacle of evolution, but simply yet another species in the teeming spectrum of life.
2. Why is DNA copying essential for the reproduction process ?
DNA copying is necessary during reproduction as DNA carries genetic information and for an organism to produce its own kind off springs.DNA replication is the way through which a cell makes additional copies of DNA so that they can be transferred to the offspring. This explains how DNA copying is an essential part of the process of replication.
3. Define speciation and list it's 3 main factors.
The formation of a new species by evolution or any genetic modification of the previously existing species in a population is called speciation.
Following are the factors responsible for speciation: 1. Genetic drift 2. Natural selection 3. Reproductive and Geographical isolation
4. Explain gene frequency and gene pool.
Gene (Allele) frequency is a measure of the relative frequency of an allele on a genetic locus in a population. Usually it is expressed as a proportion or a percentage.
The total number of genes of every individual in an interbreeding population states the gene pool. A large gene pool indicates high genetic diversity, increased chances of biological fitness, and survival.
