If the gravitational field is non uniform over a space, i.e.,field is function of spacial position, centre of gravity and centre of mas is different. Different part of the body experiences different gravitational pull.

Near Earth's surface the gravitational field remains constant and the centre of mass and centre of gravity coincides.
