I don't know what exception you thinking of but I can't really think of anything in inorganic chemistry that I have to remember.

There clearly stuff I remember on the basis of using them so much. For example I know the order of the 4f element by heart, but I certainly don't need to. I can't just look at the periodic table.

I know what the most stable oxidation states are for many metals, but I dont need to. I can just look at the periodic table.

Please clarify what you mean by exception.
