In 1990, the Indian government centralised the commission for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes formed in 1978 into The National Commission of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes. This commission is to protect the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe people, their culture, and overview their activities and rights. Due to some internal disputes and distress, the Indian government divided the National Commission of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes into National Commission for Scheduled Caste and National Commission for Scheduled Tribe. Even after the division, both commission work for the wellbeing of SC and ST people.
