By keeping a track of the milestones, a person can understand the growth of a 4-year old child. The main milestones to be achieved by a 4-year old are -
1. Physical development - For boys, the normal height should be 102.9 cm and the weight should be 16.7 kg, whereas for girls, the height should be 101.6 cm and the weight should be 16.0 kg. They have 20 teeth.
2. Language development - By 4 years, a child usually learns 500 words and keeps learning new words during the conversations. They have a curiosity towards the pronunciations. They are almost fluent in their mother-tongue.
3. Socio-emotional development - They start going to nursery and start making friends and groups of friends. They start playing with others as a group but still need to be kept on a check as they become competitive and can be agitated easily.
4. Motor Development - Can unbutton dress easily, can attend to their personal work like going to the bathroom, climbing stairs by themselves, getting ready for school, filling a glass of water with spilling, etc.
The milestones may not be the same for all the children, it does not mean that a child is not growing normally if they do not achieve a milestone.
