On heating gypsum at 373k ,it loses water molecules and become calcium sulphate hemihydrate (CaSO4.1/2H2O). this is called plaster of Paris .
Plaster of Paris is a white powder and mixing with water ,it change to gypsum once giving a hard solid mass.
CaSO4.1/2H2O+1and 1/2H2O→CaSO4.2H2O
