⚫. Sri Lanka have a diverse population of about 2 crore people.

⚫ The major social groups are The " Sinhala " speakers ( 74 % ) and Tamil speakers (18 % ).

⚫. Tamils are divided into two categories:

▶ Sri Lankan Tamils - 13 % ( Native of the country) .

▶ Indian Tamils - 5 % ( Those who came from India during colonial period as plantation workers) .

⚫. Most of the Sinhala speaking people are Buddhists whereas most of the Tamils are Hindus and Muslims.
