When one or a stack of originally flat and planar surfaces, such as sedimentary strata, are bent or curved as a result of permanent deformation, a geological fold occurs.

Faulting occurs when the pressure deep withing the lithosphere cause the earth's surface to buckle, bend and even split apart.

Volcanic activity ranges from emission of gases, non explosive lava emissions to extremely violent explosive bursts from volcanoes.

 Fold mountains are mountains that are formed mainly by the effect of folding on layers within the upper part of the Earth's crust.
