In genetic engineering pieces of chromosome from a different organism can be inserted into aplasmid. This allows the bacteria to make a new substance. ... they use an enzyme to cut the insulin gene out of the chromosome. plasmids are then removed from bacterial cells.

Plasmid is a structure that is circle in shape and has DNA. This is utilised as a vector during the engineering of the genes.

When we cut the gene that is required from the source or DNA and want to insert it to other organism, then we join the cut gene to the Plasmid and then transfer that plasmid to the other organism.

In this way, plasmids can be utilized as a vector.
