huge bonfires

● The import of foreign clothes halved from 102 Crores to 57Crores.

● Production of handloom went up.

14. Dandi March

● The most important demand of Gandhiji was to abolish the salt tax and

the government monopoly over the production.

● Salt was consumed by the rich and the poor, all alike. He started his

March with 78 other volunteers from Sabarmati Ashram to Dandi, covering

24 miles every day for 10 straight days, covering a total of 240 miles.

● On 6 th April, they reached Dandi, violated the law by

manufacturing salt by boiling seawater.

● Thousands in different parts of the country broke salt laws,

manufactured salt in front of government salt factories.

● Foreign cloth boycotted, liquor shops picketed.
