Explain in terms of bonding and structure why graphite is used as a lubricant

Each layer of Graphite is called graphine .

graphene layer slide over another graphene as they are held by a weak Vander Waal force of attraction which is very weak .

That's why graphite are soft and can be used as dry lubricant in the machines where oil can not used as lubricant .
