1..the tendency of a body at rest to remain at rest or of a body in motion to continue moving in a straight line at a constant speed unless a force is applied to it Mass is a measure of a body's inertia
2..Inertia is also defined as the tendency of objects to keep moving in a straight line at a constant velocity
3.. Inertia is the resistance of any physical object to any change in its state of motion

So, before understanding the inertia let's first understand "what the Newton's first law of motion says?"
Newton's first law of motion :- Every body if it is in rest then always be in rest, and if it is motion then always be in motion untill and unless no external force act on that body.
This law is also known as law of inertia.
So, hope you understand the Newton's first law of motion.
let's understand "what is inertia?"
Inertia :- it means for maintenance the state of an object or in other words it is a tendency of body to maintain its state of rest or motion.
it is of three types:-
1). inertia of rest:-. it states that if the body is in the state of rest then it always be in rest and maintain it's state of rest until and unless no external force acted on that body or it is a tendency or resistance provided by the the body to change its state of rest.
example :-suppose if you are in a car that is in the rest state then if suddenly the car start moving then you will feel some backward force on you that tends you to move backward or in backward direction.
this is because of the inertia of rest that your body wants to remain its state of rest even the car starts moving and to maintain the state of rest you move backward.
2). inertia of motion :- its states that if the body is in the state of motion then it always be in motion and maintain its state of motion until and unless no external force acted on that body or the tendency or resistance offered by the body to change its state of motion.
example:- suppose if you are in a moving car and suddenly the car stops. then you will experience some forward force that tells your body to move forward or in forward direction.
this is because of the inertia of motion that your body wants to remain in the state of motion even the car stops and to maintain that state of motion you move forward.
3) inertia of direction:- it states that if the body is travelling in some particular direction then it always be in that direction and maintain its direction until and unless no external force acted on that body or the tendency of resistance offered by the body to change its direction of the motion.
example :- suppose you are travelling in a moving car that is moving in some particular direction. and suddenly the car takes a sharp turn. then you will experience that you are maintaining your direction as you move left or right while taking the turn.
So, in order to maintain its direction or the inertia of direction you move right and left while taking the turn.
hope you understand what is inertia of rest motion and direction.
