Explain Maslow’s Theory of Motivation.

Maslow's Hierarchy of needs theory :  

This story was proposed by Abraham Maslow and based on the assumption that people are motivated by a series of five universal needs which are classified as :  

(i) Psychological needs :  

This need is concerned with the need for food and water. These needs are lowest in the pyramidical structure and are considered to be the lowest level needs.  

(ii) Safety needs :  

These needs are second in the pyramidical structure and emerge only after the psychological needs are fulfilled. These needs include a desire for security, stability, dependency, protection, freedom from fear and anxiety, and the need for structure, order, and law.  

(iii) Social needs :  

These needs rank third in the pyramidical structure and emerge only after the safety needs have been fulfilled. This need is concerned with belongingness and love.

(iv) Ego and Esteem needs :  

These needs are fourth in the pyramidical structure and emerge only after the social needs are fulfilled. This need is concerned with self-respect, self-esteem and esteem of others.  

(v) Self-actualization needs :  

These needs rank the highest in the pyramidical structure and emerge only after the ego and esteem needs are fulfilled. This need is concerned with continuous self-development.
