Dimitri Mendeleev was a German Scientist. He arranged the elements in order of their atomic masses
his periodic table had a few advantages and disadvantages
ADVANTAGES
1.Due to a big difference between the atomic masses of two elements Mendeleev left some empty spacesin his periodic table. He said those elements were yet to be found. He even predicted their properties. Later his prediction was proved out true.
2. Mendeleev's original table did not have space for noble elements. when they were discovered his created a new column in his table without disturbing the rest of the elements.
DISADVANTAGES
1.Since Mendeleev's periodic table was arranged according to its atomic masses there was a problem when isotopes were discovered
* Isotopes=elements with same chemical properties but different physical properties
2.There was a problem between cobalt and nickel as they have the same atomic mass.
3. The position of hydrogen: hydrogen shows similarity to the alkali metals(group1) and halogens (group 17). Therefore its position was a problem
These were the advantages and disadvantages of Mendeleev's periodic table.
