click the insert tab in the text group click the text box option

To add text anywhere on a slide (outside placeholders) click on the insert menue

-> text box, or on text box icon on the drawing toolbar.Clicj and hold down the left mouse button while you drag the mouse .When the box of the size u want then u can release the mouse button. Clock inside the text box and start typing.
