When baking powder reacts with edible acids so it gives carbon dioxide which makes the cake fluffy and causes it to rise

baking powder produces co2 which helps the cake to be soft and spongy . Thus alows the cake to rises .(Baking powder=Baking soda + tartaric acid)

tartaric acid removes the bitter taste in it
