Explain the condition of growth and area of production of cotton and jute.

cotton can be grown in black soil.It requires temperature less than 35ºC.Annual rainfall should be 85-110cm.
Jute is also known as golden fibre.It grows on well-drained fertile soils.High temperature is required.

Conditions required for the growth of cotton -

(1) Soil type : Alluvial and black soil are ideal for its cultivation.

(2) Temperature : It is a crop of tropical and sub - tropical regions. It requires 30℃ to 40℃ temperature.

(3) Rainfall : It can grow well in regions of 60 cm to 100 cm of annual rainfall. During the harvesting period weather should be dry, frost free and sunny.

(4) Areas in the world : Brazil, Egypt, India, Mexico, Pakistan and Sudan are the main countries.

(5) Areas in India : Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana, Maharashtra and Punjab are the main cotton producing states.

Cheap and efficient labour is required for plucking cotton balls.

It is mainly grown under irrigation.



Conditions required for the growth of jute -

(1) Soil type : Alluvial soil found in river delta is good for the crop. It grows well in food plains.

(2) Temperature : Jute requires more than 25℃ temperature.

(3) Rainfall : Annual rainfall should be more than 150 cm.

(4) Areas in the world : Bangladesh, Brazil, Myanmar and Thailand are the main countries.

(5) Area in India : India is one of the leading producer. In India, jute is cultivated in Ganga - Brahmaputra delta of West Bengal. Also, Assam, Bihar, Meghalaya and Odisha are jute producing states.
