As a little boy, Mandela thought of freedom as being free to run around his mother's hut, his village and ride slow moving bulls. His notion of freedom changed when he turned into a young man as he found out that he was not actually free. The freedom of black people in South Africa had been taken away by the white supremacy. Freedom then meant to Mandela as being free to work, to marry and to have a family.
