1.Metallic oxides react with acids to give salts and water. Here metal displaces hydrogen in acid and forms a salt. Displaced hydrogen adds with oxygen in metal oxide to form water. This is similar to neutralisation reaction so metallic oxides are basic in nature.
2.Acids are non-metals. They react with bases to form salts and water. Reactions of other non-metals with bases are actually quite complex. Non-metal oxides are usually acidic in nature and react with bases in the same way as acids (salt and water).
