Rainbows are spectacular rays of color. When sunlight and rain combine in a very specific way, the beams of sunlight separate into the colors and a rays of colour is formed which is called rainbow.

The rainbow is an arch of seven colors visible in the sky which is produced by the dispersion of the sun's light by raindrops in the atmosphere.
A rainbow is produced by the dispersion of white light by raindrops in the atmosphere. Each raindrop acts as a tiny glass prism splitting the sunlight into a spectrum.
The raindrops in the atmosphere act like many small prisms. As white light enter and leaves these raindrops the various colored rays present in white light are refracted by different amounts due to which an arch of seven colors called rainbow is formed in the sky.
This spectrum produced by the raindrops in the atmosphere is seen from the earth. The spectrum has red color at the top of the rainbow and violet appears at the bottom
