Blood is a transporting medium and contains Plasma, Platelets, Red blood Corpuscles (RBCs) and White Blood Corpuscles (WBCs).

\textbf{Function of the component of } \\ \textbf{blood are} :-

\bf{Red\:Blood\:Corpuscles} -: They contain haemoglobin which gives them a red colour. Haemoglobin is a respiratory pigment. The Function of Red Blood Cells is to transport respiratory gases CO2 and O2.

Red Blood Cells are biconcave, round and lack nucleus. They are more in number.

\textbf{White blood Corpuscles} -: They produce antibodies and thus prevent body from infections and diseases. They form the immune system of the body.

White Blood Cells are irregular in shape, bigger in size and small in number.

\textbf{Platelets}-: They help in the clotting of blood and thus prevent that more blood is not shed out of body.

\textbf{Plasma}-: Plasma is the fluid matrix of blood. It is where all Corpuscles are suspended. It is yellowish in colour. The function of plasma is transportation of respiratory gases, digested food, enzymes, etc.

⇒Red blood cells(Erythrocytes) : carrying haemoglobin to the cells of the body

⇒White blood cells(Leucocytes) : Protecting the body against foreign substances(germs).

1.They engulf germs

2. synthesize antibodies to kill the germs

⇒Platelets (Thrombocytes) : Help in clotting of blood and prevent excess leakage of blood and prevent haemorrhage. Note: Platelets are not cells. these are fragments of cells
