Till World War I, the industrial growth in India was slow. The beginning of the war created a new type of situation. For instance, due to the war, the import of goods manufactured in Manchester declined. During this time, British factories began manufacturing needed by the army. Indian factories now swiftly had a large market to supply. The war initiated the Indian industries to supply them with cloth for army outfits, jute bags, tents and boots made of leather, horse and animal seats etc. Therefore, the workers had to work for long hours.
