Explain the importance of using fuse in a household electric circuit

In case of short circuit, + and - wires (neutral and phase wires) get touched and very high amount of current start flowing into wire which causes fire in whole wiring of house and damage house hold items. To stop it immediately, we use fuse, which get burned with certain high current and disrupt the current flow.
