Answer:-

Respiration which takes place without the presence of oxygen is known as anaerobic respiration. It involves multiple steps for breakdown of respiratory substrate (Glucose). It mostly takes place in lower organisms such as yeast, and occurs entirely in the cytoplasm. It takes place in two steps in which the first step is glycolysis where the respiratory substrate is broken down into two molecules of pyruvate i.e ATP and NADH2.

Explaination:-

Thus anaerobic respiration takes place on different availability of oxygen:-

1. In the absence of Oxygen

 \large \sf{C_{6}H_{12}O_{6} \rightarrow \: CO_{2} + ethanol + 2ATP}

This takes place in yeast and thus carbohydrates are broken down into alcohol and carbon dioxide with the evolution of 2 molecules of energy so this process is called as fermentation.

2. Lack of Oxygen

 \large \sf{C_{6}H_{12}O_{6}\rightarrow \: Lactic \: acid + Energy }

This takes place in our muscle cells after heavy exercise due to which our muscles don't get enough O2 for the breakdown of glucose thus releasing lactic acid that causes muscle cramps.

3. Presence of Oxygen

 \large \sf{C_{6}H_{12}O_{6} + O_{2}   \rightarrow \: CO_{2} + H_{2}O + 38 \: ATP}

This takes place in the mitochondria where glucose is broken down completely into carbon dioxide, water and energy in the presence of oxygen.

Answer:

Anaerobic respiration is the type of respiration that takes place in the absence of oxygen.

There are three cases of mechanism of anaerobic respiration such as :-

◾In the lack of oxygen, glucose is converted into lactic acid . Such as in the muscle cramps.

◾In the absence of oxygen, glucose is converted into ethanol with the evolution of carbon dioxide. In yeast such mechanism of anaerobic respiration takes place.

◾In the presence of oxygen, glucose is converted into carbon dioxide. It releases 38ATP of energy.
