periodicity is of phenomenon due to which certain chemical and physical properties reappear after regular interval in a periodic table due to similar electronic configuration among the elements

on moving down the periodic table in group 1 atomic size generally increases because principal Quantum number increases and therefore the outermost electron is more far away from the nucleus

on moving across a period from left to right atomic size and really increases because effective nuclear charge on the atom is increased due to which electrons experience greater attraction towards the nucleus causing reduction in the the size of atom (but this trend is violated in case of noble gases because we consider van der wall radius only in case of noble gases )
