Germination is the process of seeds developing into new plants. When water is plentiful, the seed fills with water in a process called imbibition. The water activates special proteins, called enzymes, that begin the process of seed growth. First the seed grows a root to access water underground

The process of Germination starts from sprouting of the seed. The Seed absorbs water and removes the seed coat. Then the embryonic root 'radicle' emerges and after it the embryonic shoot 'plumule'. Then a few days later the seedling emerges .The cotyledons provide energy to the plant and after a few days later the plant starts photosynthesis to produce food and sheds it's cotyledons.
