Answer:

Sound requires a medium to propagate.

Sound travels through solids, liquids, gases.

Propagation of sound through solids :

Sound travels faster in solids than it travels through liquids, gases.

Eg : when the grill of the staircase is striked with a stick the person who is

leaning on the grill of the stair case can hear the sound.

From this we can say that sound travels through solids.

Propagation of sound through liquids :

Sound travels faster in liquids than it travels in gases & slower than it

travels in solids.

Eg : when we ring a bell in bucket of water , we can hear sound.

From this we can say that sound travels in water.

Propagation of sound through gases :

Sound travels slower in gases than it travels in solids, liquids.

Eg : communication of two persons with each other.

From this we can say that sound travels in gases.

Answer:

Sound is a sequence of waves of pressure which propagates through compressible media such as air or water. (Sound can propagate through solids as well, but there are additional modes of propagation). During their propagation, waves can be reflected, refracted, or attentuated by the medium.
