A virtual and upright image is formed in a plane mirror due to regular reflection.
Regular reflection
The mirror like reflection of rays from a surface is known as specular reflection or regular reflection. In this the reflected ray has the same angle to the surface normal as the incident ray. A plane mirror makes an image of the object in front of it. The image appears to be behind the plane in which the mirror lies.
