Breaks in Monsoon rainfall :-
A phenomenon related with the monsoon is its tendency to breaks in rainfall. It refers to wet and dry spells. In other words, the monsoon rains take place only for a few days at a time. They are interspersed with rain-less intervals.
These breaks in monsoon are due to the movement of monsoon trough. The monsoon trough shows periodical movement to the north or south of its normal position. When the trough moves towards north and lies close to the Himalayas, there is a change in the rainfall pattern of India. The rains seize abruptly over the plains of North India, and increases rapidly over the foothills of North India. This is known as breaks in monsoon rainfall.
Impact :-
The breaks in monsoon rainfall significantly affect the crop yield and fodder for animals in India. Sometimes these breaks can be prolonged and causing drought like situation in the country and that makes the situation very worse.
