Explain the refraction of light
Answers
Answer:
refraction is the change in direction of a wave passing from one medium to another or from a gradual change in the medium. Refraction of light is the most commonly observed phenomenon, but other waves such as sound waves and water waves also experience refraction

➪ QUESTION :• EXPLAIN THE REFRACTION OF LIGHT .
Answer:
★ REFRACTION :•
When Light passes from one transparent Medium to another , it changes its speed and direction ( or bends ) . This bending of light is called REFRACTION . But , when the light falls perpendicular o the surface of tje medium , it does not change its Direction .
★ REFRACTION IN DIFFERENT MEDIUMS :•
- WHen light passes from air into water or glass , it bends towards the Normal . THE ANGLE OF INCIDENCE IS GREATER THAN THE ANGLE OF REFRACTION .
- When light passes from water or glass into air , it bends away from the normal . THE ANGLE OF REFRACTION IS GREATER THAN THE ANGLE OF INCIDENCE .
★ LAWS OF REFRACTION :•
THERE ARE TWO LAWS OF REFRACTION :•
- The incident ray , the refracted ray and the normal at the point of incidence , all lie in the same plane .
- The ratio of the speed of light in vacuum to its speed in another medium is always constant .

★ IMPORTANT TERMS :•
WE CAN UNDERSTAND THE TERM REFRACTION WITH THE HELP OF THE FOLLOWING TERMS :•
➠ INCIDENT RAY :• The ray of light that travels in one medium and falls on the surface of the second medium .
➠ REFRACTED RAY :• The ray of light that changes its direction in the second medium .
➠ NORMAL :• An imaginary line , drawn perpendicularly on the surface of the medium at the point where the incident ray falls ( point of incidence ) .
➠ ANGLE OF INCIDENCE :• The angle between the normal and the incident ray . It is denoted by " i " .
➠ ANGLE OF REFRACTION :• The angle between the normal and the refracted ray . It is denoted by " r " .
