The Election Commission of India is an autonomous body.It was started in 1950.

The functions of Election Commission of India are divided into three important functions. They are :

1. ADMINSTRATIVE FUNCTIONS : IN this functions EC prepares the electoral rolls, symbols for the parties, the demarcation of constituencies, it announces the schedule of elections , finalises the polling dates etc. .

2. ADVISORY FUNCTIONS : It advises the enquiry officers to observe electrol malpractices.It also advices the president and the governor of the states regarding the disqualification of the representatives to the parliament and legeslatives.


3. QUASI JUDICIAL FUNCTIONS: It solves the disputes between parties.At this time it acts as judicial authority..
