• No Kingdom were allowed to keep their independent armed forces.

• Their states were supposed to be protected by the East India Company.

• They had to pay for the extra ( subsidiary) forces for the purpose of protection.

• If they failed to make payment then their kingdom would be taken away as penalty

• For example: Awadh was taken away as penalty because they failed to make payment.
