As fictional force continuously acting on the body decreases its speed and no force is applied to overcome the frictional force so thr frictional force finally makes the body stop

A cyclist riding along a road does not come to rest immediately after he stop pedalling.

The bicycle continue to move forward due to the inertia of motion.

But eventually it comes to rest as a result of the retarding action of friction.
