Water is very important for germination of seeds as the water causes seed coat to swell and due to which cells of the seed get hydrated. After being hydrated coat of seed becomes soft and then the cell could divide and breakthrough the softened coat . This is how germination begins. So, moistened soil is very important for a seed to germinate and grow into a big tree.

Basically anything needs water to grow well and prosper. Water is indispensable especially for the seeds. They need water to germinate and grow into a huge tree. What actually water does is.....it causes the seed coat, the outer covering of the seed to swell and hydrates the seed. Once the seed is hydrated the seed gets rid of the outer covering as it becomes smooths and breaks out. And then the germination process will occur.
