In the case of sexually reproducing organisms, meiosis occurs during gametogenesis in order to reduce the no. of diploid chromosomes into haploid in the gametes. Thus, gametes are formed as a result of meiosis so that their no. becomes haploid. This is why meiosis and gametogensis are always interlinked.
