There is no increase in the temperature of substance when it undergoes a change of state because the heat energy we are applying to change is used up by the particles of matter and used for breaking intermolecular forces of attraction that's why there is no rise in the temperature of substance. The heat gets hidden in the container and that what we call as latent heat .
