Explain with examples (i) Atomic number, (ii) Mass number, (iii) Isotopes and (iv) Isobars. Give any two uses of isotopes.
Answers
here is short defnition of these
Answer:
1) atomic number = neutral atoms of an element contain an equal number of protons and elements atomic number( Z )and distinguish one element from another (example carbon atomic number z is 6 because it has 6 protons.)
2)mass number = the number of protons and neutrons combine to give us the mass number of atoms as both protons and neutrons are present in the nucleus of an atom they are together called nucleus. (example = it mass 6 protons and 6 neutrons thus it mass number is 12.
3) isotopes = the number of nutrients in the nucleus is the atoms mass number and each isotope of a given element has a different mass number example carbon and carbon 13 and carbon 14 are three isotopes of the element carbon with mass number 12 13 and 14.
4)isobars= isobars are atom different chemical elements that have the same number of news aliens corresponding isobars are different in atom numbers but have the same mass number
