Factoring Algebraic Expressions. As already said above, when we factorise an algebraic expression, we write it as the product of irreducible factors. These factors may be numbers, algebraic variables or algebraic expressions. Expressions like 5xy, 7x2y, 2x(y+3), 11(y+1) (x+2) are already in an irreducible factor form.
