CORRECT QUESTION.

  • Factorise the polynomial p(x) = 20x² - 9x + 1 and find the zeros.

SOLUTION.

Given –

→ 20x² - 9x + 1 = 0

By splitting the middle term, we get,

→ 20x² - 4x - 5x + 1 = 0

Factoring out, we get,

→ 4x(5x - 1) - 1(5x - 1) = 0

→ (4x - 1)(5x - 1) = 0

By zero product rule,

→ (4x - 1) = 0 or (5x - 1) = 0

→ x = 1/4, 1/5.

★ So, the zeros of p(x) are 1/4 and 1/5.

ANSWER.

  • Factorised form = (4x - 1)(5x - 1)
  • Zeros are – 1/4 and 1/5.
