farmers are advised against adding too much of water to thier fields . why ?

water is very essebtial component for agriculture. But farmers are advised not to water too much to theor fields because too much water may suffocate the plant roots and plant get affected in many ways. The field becomes logged and plants cannot get proper air and water.
