This process is called Biological Magnification.
The artificial fertilizers and pesticides used gets keep on accumulatimg in our body. Because there is no enzyme that digest them.
As the DDT used gets washed away to the nearby water body and the fishes living in that consumes that water and those small fishes are eaten by birds.
The irony is that the birds gets most affected one.
