What are Conjuctions?

  • Conjunctions are words or phrases that link clauses, sentences, and other words together. A common example of a conjunction is the word and.
  • Here are two instances of how a conjunction, like and, can be used both simply and intricately. Other examples of conjunctions include but ,or, so, because, however ,after ,since, during ,than, unless, that ,while and etc.

Types of Conjunctions-

  • Coordinating conjunctions=A coordinating conjunction is a connecting word that joins two or more grammatical parts that are of equal value. This typically involves using a coordinating conjunction to join similar components of speech, such a verb to another verb.
  • Coordinating conjunctions are crucial because they link independent clauses together. A sentence-complete clause that can stand on its own is an independent clause.
  • Subordinating conjunction=A dependent clause, also known as a subordinate clause, is joined to an independent clause by a subordinating conjunction.
  • A subordinate clause, in contrast to an independent clause, cannot stand alone as a full sentence.A subordinating conjunction, however, can be used to link  subordinate sentence to an independent clause.
  •  In a sentence, subordinating conjunctions might appear at the start or in the middle.
  • Correlative conjunctions=Correlative conjunctions are conjunction pairings that function as a unit.
  • Correlative conjunctions include the words both, and, either, or, neither, nor, and rather. The purpose of each pair of correlative conjunctions varies.
