Answer:  a + b = 3 + 2 = 5

Step-by-step explanation:  Let 3a + 2b = 13 be equ. (i)

and 4a - 2b = 8 be equ. (ii)

Then, by elimination method    3a + 2b = 13

                                                   4a - 2b = 8

                                                 7a           = 21

                                             => a = 3

Then, putting the value a = 3 in equ. (ii) we get

4 × 3 - 2b = 8

⇒ 12 - 2b = 8

⇒ -2b = - 4

b = 2

Therefore, a + b = 3 + 2 = 5
